2025 Canadian Camp Census Survey

The strength of the industry, the CCA and Provincial Camping Associations (PCAs) are dependent on your completion of this survey

Introduction

The Canadian Camping Association (CCA) is conducting its 2025 Industry Data Survey to provide a current and comprehensive overview of the accredited summer camp sector in Canada. The data collected will be instrumental in advocating for the camping industry at the federal level, demonstrating the significant economic impact of camps, and showcasing the invaluable services they provide to Canadians. Given that the last national data collection occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic, this updated survey is crucial to accurately reflect the changed landscape and the sector's ongoing contributions.

This survey marks the beginning of an ongoing initiative to regularly collect industry data. The consistency of these questions will enable the CCA to create a robust dataset for analyzing long-term trends and providing up-to-date insights on the state of the industry.

Importance of the Data

The information gathered through this survey will enable the CCA and Provincial Camping Associations (PCAs) to effectively advocate for the needs of the Canadian camping industry with the federal and provincial governments. By quantifying the sector's economic footprint and highlighting the diverse benefits of camp experiences, we can strengthen our position and ensure that the voices of camps are heard. This data will also empower individual camps to better demonstrate their value to stakeholders, including funders, parents, and communities.

Privacy and Trust

The CCA recognizes the importance of data privacy and security. We are committed to handling all collected data with the utmost care and in compliance with relevant privacy legislation. All survey data will be securely stored in Canada to ensure compliance with Canadian privacy and data residency requirements. The CCA works closely with legal counsel and the leadership of each PCA to ensure that our data handling practices meet the highest standards of confidentiality and security.

Individual camp data will be aggregated for reporting purposes and will not be disclosed in a way that identifies specific camps.

The following people will have access to individualized survey data:

  • CCA Executive Director

  • CCA President

  • Chair, CCA Industry Data Committee

The Canadian Camping Association's Industry Data Committee and designated leaders from each PCA will only have access to a limited dataset containing only the camp name, contact email, and PCA affiliation. This information will be used solely to track which member camps have completed the survey.

For this specific survey, data analysis may be conducted by a third-party organization. The third-party organization will only have access to de-personalized data, ensuring that no individual camp can be identified in the analysis or reporting.

Personalized survey data will be deleted after 5 years (October 2030)

Guidance for Completing the Survey

To ensure the accuracy and completeness of the survey, we recommend that it be completed by a senior staff member or someone with significant tenure and knowledge of your camp's operations. Please take the time to gather any necessary financial and operational information beforehand.

Rationale for Expense-Related Questions

The survey includes questions about your camp's expenses. We ask this to help us understand the overall economic impact of the Canadian camp sector. This information will be used for reporting aggregated trends and will be kept strictly confidential. Individual camp financial data will not be shared or published.
